Unique Fireplace Tile Ideas

clara August 8, 2021 Fireplace

The fireplace is the heart-center of any room if it’s allowed to shine like the magnificent, living focal point that it wants to be. It provides much-needed heat, an eternally evolving dance of flame and color, and – with the right dressing -can be a feature that elicits that all elusive “wow”.
It’s true to say that fireplaces sell homes – they spark the middle-class aspirational fire in any home-seeker, so to have one with striking looks is sure to get the contract signed in record time.
We’ve stoked the cyber flames and curated a collection of the most fantastic fireplace tile ideas so that you can add the interest of flame and motion to the bucket-list of home interiors.
Black and white can be a striking combination when adorning a traditional fireplace. These qua trefoil-inspired tiles are outstanding against the modest neutrality of the surrounding color scheme. The star repetition stretches along the hearthstone, flush with the carpeting; stretching across the entire width of the wall. These black stars are so at home with the gaping black maw of the fire that this effortless design looks impressive beyond its simplicity; while creating a unity of duo tone sensibility. For a genuine feature, you couldn’t go far wrong than with these fabulous, patterned tiles. Striking.
Textured tiling is particularly fashionable, bringing palpable interest onto an expanse of blank canvas. This mini-slate, dry-stone arrangement is a bold statement that can work beautifully in rooms with high ceilings. I’m not entirely sure that a fireplace between a door and the staircase makes total sense; so, in this case, there’s something ever-so-slightly jarring between this fabulous wall decoration and the 1980s building that surrounds it. However, this is a great demonstration of what can be done with modern fireplaces, nonetheless. Televisions situated above fireplaces can be problematic in a small room because the necessary height of placement determines the viewer looks continually upwards, risking neck-ache. This mid-height television is aided by the long, narrow fireplace: installation is at quite a comfortable height here. This textured wall, fireplace surround is a great idea; albeit slightly out-of-kilter with the wall height and position.
This fireplace is barely short of stunning, in a herringbone chevron tessellation with tiles of varying tones. The seemingly random placement of the deeper grey tiles adds depth of texture, while the combination of tonal diversity perfectly mirrors the natural marbling of the bare concrete. The ceiling is an interlocking combination of concrete slabs; the flooring, resplendent in epoxy pebbling, draws the hues of this feature wall together from ceiling to floor. The long, narrow fireplace shines like a beacon of style, letterboxes into the fascinating tactility of the tiled wall. This cavernous space oozes homely appeal that bare concrete alone could never achieve. Stunning combinations.
This beautiful, relaxed space is a wonderfully subtle combination of pattern against matte slabs of solidity. The walls are a stylish hue of stone, while the textural combination of flat color against the haphazard pile of chopped logs brings some much-needed disorder, highlighted by reds and oranges; hues that motif ally stretch across the beautifully restored floorboards. The wood burner is cute and homely, while the smooth finish of the plastered chimney breast is a wonderfully tasteful merger of fire and order. The train-sleeper mantle is a strikingly rustic addition. But the real genius is the tiled hearth – a subtle addition of color that tumbles onto the patchwork rug, rolling away from the fire and into the center of this cozy space. The geometric design of the tiled hearth is reflected in the scatter-cushions which lazily lounge across the sofa – adding a necessary reinforcement of this mathematical composition. The eye is drawn towards the beautifully-adorned hearth without tardily flag-waving attention toward itself.  The modern, cage-style light shade is an introduction of contemporary design into an otherwise traditional space. The wire-lighting in the far corner is a strange choice for such a well-ordered room of subtle shade and tasteful combinations. Nonetheless, this room oozes comfort, nonchalant styling, and homely appeal. Warm.

This fireplace is quite clearly solely ornamental, but this mini-brick tile would be equally at home framing a roaring fire in the deepest winter. The brick configuration is accentuated by the stark white grouting that echoes the brilliant white of the ceiling and the lampshades, while the sage tiles bring a calming aura to the room. The sage clashes a little with the yellowy Egyptian cotton of the walls – a Merlot or burnt orange would bring out the greens in the sage, even if it was just another feature color around the chimney breast. However, this smart brick tiling is a fun take on the deep gloss of Victorian tiling. Impressive.
These super-sized tiles are magnificent in hues of rusted copper. The textural tonal variety presents a rainbow of fire-shades, from burnt orange, through sunny amber, and extending through to deep chocolate. The asymmetric wood shelf is a masterstroke of textural contrast: the natural rings of the intersected logs establish a fascination of nature’s unique patterning and tonal brightness against these fantastic tiles. The narrow fireplace is understated, yet incredibly stylish; with all the welcoming of the natural fire, framed into a living tableau that requires no further embellishment. The retro bucket seats and coffee table transform this superb space into a snug that would be the envy of all who enter. The stripped floorboards add further earth tones. Striking and magnificent.
This textured fireplace contrasts fantastically against the stark, flat, super-sized wall tiling. The sudden portal of textures and tonal greys enveloping this contemporary fireplace introduces a welcome, rusticity to this ultra-modern space. What’s so impressive with this arrangement is in the choice of mismatched tones, holding no pretense at uniformity. The texture resembles an exposed lath and plaster wall, revealing the guts of the panel’s structure. This perfectly conceived rainbow of grey is mirrored in the tone of the sofa, bringing this feature wall into unity with this lovely, modern living room. Stunning.
